BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Attorney General Buddy Caldwell is
getting $5 million from the block grant aid given to Louisiana by
oil giant BP for response to the massive spill in the Gulf of
Mexico.
BP PLC gave Louisiana a $25 million grant for cleanup and
response efforts. Gov. Bobby Jindal announced Monday that he'll
carve a $5 million slice out to Caldwell's office.
That's only a portion of what Caldwell says he needs to prepare
for a lawsuit over the spill.
Caldwell has asked state lawmakers for $27 million, saying he
needs to hire outside lawyers and experts about the spill. He has
yet to say who he'll sue or when he'll file such a lawsuit.
