Attempted Burglary at Pawn Shop in Iberia Parish

Press Release: Sheriff Louis Ackal stated that on November 16, 2010 at approximately 10:41 p.m. the Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office received a call of a possible burglary in progress at 805 S. Lewis Street (Bayou State Pawn) in the city limits of New Iberia. Deputies then arrived in the area and located the suspect driving a white Ford Expedition. Deputies then performed a traffic stop on the vehicle at the intersection of Lewis and Dale Streets.
Deputies determined that Cordero Calais (age 19, of 202 Carmel Drive, Lafayette, LA) was involved in the attempted burglary of Bayou State Pawn and was placed under arrest. Deputies then charged Calais with illegal carrying of a weapon, principal to burglary, and possession of marijuana. He was transported to the Iberia Parish Jail where he was booked in. Detectives are expecting more arrests to follow as the investigation continues.
