BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - The attack-heavy campaigning by the
Republican candidates for a southeast Louisiana congressional seat
has intensified in the days leading to Saturday's election.
Hunt Downer's campaign has launched a series of differing jabs
at his opponent and the front-runner, New Iberia lawyer Jeff
Landry. Downer's campaign claimed Landry paid for his own business
out of campaign funds and bought a tea party organization
endorsement.
The current ad run by Downer, a former Louisiana House speaker,
accuses Landry of repeatedly changing his position on abortion.
Landry's camp calls Downer's attacks untrue and a desperate bid
by a flailing campaign. Both of Landry radio and TV spots slam
Downer for his decades-long past as a Democrat and his work for
Democrats.
