LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) Federal prosecutors have filed tax evasion charges against a 15th Judicial District assistant district attorney.
The Advertiser reports Joseph Floyd Johnson, who has worked for the Lafayette Parish District Attorney's Office since 1995, was charged Tuesday with one count of tax evasion.
According to a bill of information, Johnson failed to file income tax returns from 2003 to 2008.
But according to court documents, federal prosecutors are charging Johnson for allegedly attempting to evade owing income taxes only for 2003.
Johnson's attorney declined to comment on the charges.
District Attorney Mike Harson tells The Advocate that Johnson plans to resign.
Harson said Johnson informed him within the past few days of the possibility of the charge.
