Assault Victim Dies; Roommate Charges Upgraded to Murder

Charges against a Lafayette man have been upgraded to second-degree murder after police say he beat his female roommate to death. The incident took place Wednesday morning at Morning Glory Square Apartments. Police say 24-year-old Adam Batiste assaulted 18-year-old Gabrielle Spencer in their apartment. Spencer died earlier today from her injuries. Police still do not know the extent of the relationship between Batiste and Spencer. Batiste is being held without bond.
