The father of the 16-year-old Florida girl who was found in Lafayette Wednesday night after a 40-mile police chase said his daughter and his family have "a long healing process" ahead.
Ashley Lyon, from Valrico in the Tampa Bay area, left home June 11 with 41-year-old convicted sex offender Steven Myers.
The two were recognized by a cashier at the Tiger Truck Stop in Grosse Tete, which prompted a 40-mile chase on the interstate until state troopers used a spike strip to stop the truck, which was reported stolen out of Taylor County, Fla.
Myers stabbed Ashley Lyon 10 times and then began stabbing himself.
Deputies from the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office in Florida said at a press conference today that this "was not an abduction."
"This was jointly planned," the deputy said. "A 41 year old sexual offender manipulated her."
Ashley Lyon's father also spoke at the press conference this afternoon.
"To hear your daughter had been stabbed, I wouldn't wish that on anyone," Roger Lyon said. "My daughter is strong. I know she is strong willed. With the community's help and help from others I know she will pull through this.
"I ask that you protect Ashley's privacy and my family's privacy," he continued. "This will be a long healing process. She is a minor, she is 16, and she is my daughter."
