Saturday, May 10th, Vermilionville will host an exhibit of student-created art, thanks to support from a National Endowment for the Arts grant and several local and national partners, including the George Rodrigue Foundation for the Arts, the Acadiana Center for the Arts, Local Learning and the Lafayette Parish School System. The "Local Learning @ Vermilionville" (LL@VV) exhibit will display works by students from David Thibodeaux STEM Academy and Paul Breaux Middle School from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. that day.
The LL@VV program allows Vermilionville artisans and teaching artists to conduct classroom residencies throughout the school year. It highlights the importance of occupational folklore, interviewing skills, passing on traditions through generations, and creating a hands-on art project that culminates the students' experiences.
The day will also include a Cajun music jam from 1-3 pm, and food and beverages will be available for purchase for picnicking on Vermilionville's green space. Attendees are also encouraged to visit the Student Arts Expo at various locations in downtown Lafayette following the event at Vermilionville to enjoy more student-produced art.
