Arrests Made in OWI Checkpoint

An OWI checkpoint in Lafayette Saturday night resulted in eight arrests. The checkpoint was set up in the 1300 block of Bertrand Drive. Andrew B. Chopin, Jonathon G. Simon, Wilmar O. Ramirez, and Jonathan L. Dupuis were all arrested for OWI. Police arrested four other people on other charges. Benjamin Thomas and Jermaine Jones were both arrested for possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. Quentis Brown, II, was arrested for possession of marijuana. Carlos Orlando was arrested for driving without lawful presence in the United States.
In all, 543 vehicles passed through the checkpoint. Fifteen drivers were stopped for secondary testing. Police also issued eight citations for various other violations.
