Rayne police arrested five people and are looking for two others accused of illegally getting their hands on prescription pills and selling them. The pills are worth $37,300. One of the suspects, Misty Brandenburg, is accused of stealing prescription pads from a doctor's office where she's been working. She and the others in the group used the pads to fill prescriptions like hydrocodone, alprazolam and carisoprodol pills, said Rayne Police Chief Carroll Stelly. Investigators found out 3,370 pills were "put on the street," according to Stelly.
Tammy Howe, Jody Dufrene, Jody Dufrene II, Joshua Dufrene and Alicia Dawsey, who live in the 1000 block of The Blvd in Rayne, and Cinda LaGrange, of the 300 block of Kathy Dr. are charged with Forgery and Distribution of a Schedule III Controlled Dangerous Substance. "The case originated in Lafayette with Metro Narcotics becoming aware of Misty Brandenburg," said Stelly. Misty Brandenburg and Dwayne Lavergne are wanted, and anyone with information on their whereabouts is asked to call Rayne Police at 334-4215.
