Arrest Made in St. Landry's "Operation School Zone"

St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office, Narcotics Detectives have arrested four suspects and have an Arrest Warrant for a fifth suspect in connection with the Distribution of Marijuana and Crack Cocaine in three different school zones.

According to Sheriff Bobby Guidroz; St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Narcotics Detectives were receiving numerous complaints of drug activity in school zones around St. Landry Parish. The Narcotics Detectives were able to identify several suspects and the Detectives then conducted "Operation School Zone" which targeted these individuals. During these operations the Detectives were able to purchase Marijuana and Crack Cocaine from numerous suspects. The Detectives were also able to search three residences throughout the Parish.

The Detectives began their operations in Washington. The residence was approximately fifty yards from Washington Elementary School. The Narcotics Detectives searched the residence and allegedly located approximately a pound of Marijuana broken down into numerous small bags for distribution, a digital scale and approximately eight hundred and fifty dollars in US Currency.

During a second search the Detectives allegedly located approximately ten pounds of Marijuana, a digital scale and approximately twelve hundred dollars in US Currency in Opelousas. The residence was approximately one hundred yards from Grolee Elementary School. The Detectives were also able to purchase approximately a pound of Marijuana from the renter, Michael Richard, on three separate occasions.

During a search of a residence on Westwego St. the Narcotics Detectives located approximately three cookies of Crack Cocaine and a digital scale. This residence was approximately two hundred yards from North Elementary School in Opelousas. The suspect Ervin Durio Stewart sold Crack Cocaine to Undercover Detectives from the residence.

Sheriff Guidroz stated, "Opelousas Police Officers assisted the Narcotics Detectives during the searches of the Opelousas residences and the street value of the Narcotics Seized was estimated to be ($15,000.00) fifteen thousand dollars." Sheriff Guidroz also stated, "If you are dealing any types of drugs near the children of St. Landry Parish we will catch you." Sheriff Guidroz then vowed that more arrests were pending.
