The suspect in last Thursday's bank robbery in Scott is now behind bars.
Scott police chief Chad Leger announced during a press conference today that 59-year-old Charles J. Fontenot was arrested around 8 p. m. Friday and charged in connection with the incident.
Police say Fontenot got away with approximately $14,000 in cash during the robbery.
According to Leger, Opelousas police chief Perry Gallow contacted him Friday about Fontenot, who matched the investigators' description of the robber, after residents phoned in tips to the Opelousas Police Department. Officers arrested Fontenot at his home, where they say they found $12,000 of the stolen cash.
Fontenot is charged with armed robbery. He was transported to the Lafayette Parish Correction Center, where he remains on $500,000 bond.
Leger was joined at the press conference by Gallow, officers from the Opelousas Police Department, and Scott mayor Purvis Morrison.
