Arrest made in murder of Bayou Vista Man

Deputies in St. Mary Parish have made an arrest in connection with a murder that happened just after midnight in Bayou Vista.

Responding to a 911 call on Columbus Avenue, deputies say they found an unresponsive male subject identified as 18 year old Wade Blackburn of Bayou Vista. Blackburn was pronounced deceased at the scene by the St. Mary Parish Coroner.

Based on witness statements, deputies identified 21 year old Charles Douglas Chandler, II of 149 Sun Road in Bayou Vista as a suspect in the shooting. Detectives secured and executed a search warrant for Chandler's residence. They say evidence believed to be related to the homicide was recovered, including a gun. Narcotics detectives assisting in the search say they also located marijuana, drug paraphernalia, pills, and counterfeit money.

Deputies say while they were searching the home, a citizen alerted them to Chandler who was hiding behind a vehicle. Chandler allegedly fled on foot, but deputies were able to catch up with him.

Chandler was placed under arrest on a warrant for 1st degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

He is also charged with:
Possession of marijuana 3rd offense
Possession of drug paraphernalia
Possession of a firearm in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance
Monetary instrument abuse
Possession of a Legend Drug without a prescription (Fioricet)

Chandler was transported to the parish jail; no bond is set.
