Arrest in Lafayette cold case

Lafayette Police Department have arrested a suspect in an ongoing investigation beginning 12 years ago.

Willie J. Robertson was charged Thursday December 15, 2011 with 2nd Degree Murder. The arrest is the result from a cold case. On October 7, 1999, the deceased body of 86 year old Irene Schoofs was discovered in her home, located in the 300 Block of Adrienne Street. At the time the victim was discovered, it appeared that her home had been burglarized. During the course of the investigation, evidence was re-examined, which lead to the arrest of Robertson.

Robertson was also arrested and charged with an unrelated residential burglary that occurred on November 7, 2011 in the 1400 Block of Carmel Avenue. The investigation into both cases continues.
