AVONDALE, La. (AP) - Westbound traffic on U.S. Highway 90 going through Avondale will be rerouted next week as the Army Corps of Engineers builds a bridge to cross over a floodwall.
The Army Corps says the bridge and floodwall are part of an improved system to protect the West Bank area from hurricanes.
The interruption on Highway 90 will start on Monday. Eastbound traffic will be rerouted too at a future date. The detours are expected to last until October, when the bridge project is done.
During the work, the speed limit will be reduced from 55 miles per hour to 45 miles per hour.
