The Abbeville Police Department received a complaint of an armed robbery occurring at 05:57 AM today on N. Lyman Street. The suspect was in custody at 06:43 AM.
Officers responding to the call found that the victim was approached by a black male subject wearing a hood over his face and armed with a handgun who demanded his money and his cell phone. The victim complied and the suspect ran away.
Police flooded the area with patrol units looking for the suspect and at 06:43 located Matthew Plowden, who ran when approached by officers. During the foot pursuit officers witnessed Plowden throw a handgun down and upon his apprehension he was in possession of the stolen items from the robbery.
Chief Coleman commends those officers who worked on this case, Shift B, Shift C, and the Detective Division. Great Job!
Chief Coleman further states that the handgun Plowden used in this robbery had been reported stolen from an Abbeville resident a few months ago. This arrest not only resolved the armed robbery but also got a stolen handgun off the street.
Matthew Plowden was booked on:
Unauthorized Entry of a Dwelling (attempted)
Possession of a Stolen Firearm
Misrepresentation during booking
