Approximately 20 firearms stolen by alleged Alexandria burglar

Deputies arrested an alleged burglar from Alexandria Wednesday in connection to firearm thefts in the Boyce and Elmer areas.

Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office reports that its deputies responded last Thursday to the 3800 block of LA 121 in Boyce, LA in reference to firearms reported missing when a resident returned home. Without suspect information, detectives launched an investigation and obtained a lead that identified Jerry Lee Turney, Jr of 2780 McKeithan Drive, Alexandria, as a suspect.

Detectives were working other cases of other firearm burglaries in the Elmer area as well. Approximately 20 firearms were stolen among three separate burglaries. According to a deputies, search warrants were granted for different locations and some of the stolen firearms were recovered. Detectives made contact with Turney on Aug. 20 at his home, where he was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Rapides Parish Detention Center on three counts Aggravated Burglary. On Thursday, detectives also booked Turney with one count Convicted Felon in Possession of a Firearm. Turney is being held on a $35,000 bond.

Detectives say the investigation is ongoing and more arrests are expected.
