LAFAYETTE, La. - The Acadian Home Builders Association (AHBA) and KATC-TV 3 kicked off their Annual Home for the Holidays Project with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday, September 5th. This year marks the ninth anniversary of the raffle house project which has donated over $1.1 Million so far to Acadiana non-profit shelter organizations.
Home for the Holidays is an event in which AHBA builder members construct a high-end home and then raffle it off for charity. Recipients are all Acadiana-based shelter organizations including Lafayette Habitat for Humanity, Faith House, Acadiana Youth Inc., and St. Michael Center for Veterans. Proceeds from the project also go to sponsor construction programs and scholarships at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
"Sheltering the less fortunate in our community is a cause the home builders association is proud to support," said Pam Weaver, AHBA President. "Our Home for the Holidays charities rely on the annual funds from this project to provide a safe haven for abused women and children, care for our homeless veterans, give guidance to children in crisis, and make the American dream of home ownership a reality for more families."
This year's Home for the Holidays is located in Élan subdivision off E. Broussard Road in Lafayette and is being built by AHBA member Brett Breaux of BECC Enterprises. Designed by Girouard & Hebert Architects, the house features 2,868 sq. ft. of living space, four bedrooms, three-and-a-half bathrooms and many luxury amenities. It is valued at over $420,000.
Other prizes will be given away throughout the duration of the three-month project including a 2013 Cadillac SRX, a $10,000 Home Makeover Package, diamond earrings valued at $8,000, a BOSCH® stainless steel French-door refrigerator, Apple iPads, gift cards to area restaurants and shops, and much more.
Raffle tickets for the Home for the Holidays are $100 each and on sale at all Doug Ashy Building Materials stores, locations of MidSouth Bank in Lafayette, Carencro and Opelousas and at the AHBA office. They can also be purchased by phone at (337) 981-3053 or online at www.HomeForTheHolidaysLA.com.
