SLIDELL, La. (AP) - Authorities say an Amtrak train struck a tractor-trailer rig carrying armored personnel carriers in southeastern Louisiana.
Slidell Assistant Police Chief Kevin Foltz says no injuries have been reported among the approximately 68 passengers and 11 crew
members on the Crescent, which was en route from New Orleans to New York.
Amtrak spokesman Marc Magliari says the rig was blocking a crossing when the train hit it about 8 a.m., damaging both locomotives. Foltz says four of the train cars were partially
knocked off the tracks.
Foltz says the truck driver was injured, but his condition was not immediately known.
The armored personnel carriers are manufactured at a Textron
Corp. plant near Slidell.
