CROWLEY, La. (AP) - Authorities say an Amtrak train crashed into
a tractor-trailer rig near Crowley on Friday, sending 14 people to
area hospitals with minor injuries.
Amtrak spokesman Marc Magliari says the Sunset Limited - en
route from Los Angeles to New Orleans - hit a grain trailer that
had failed to clear the tracks about 11:30 a.m.
Acadia Parish sheriff's spokeswoman Maxine Trahan says 11
passengers, two engineers and a conductor were treated for
injuries. The driver of the rig was not hurt.
Magliari says there were 96 passengers and 10 crewmembers
Trahan says the driver told investigators that he looked both
ways at the crossing - equipped with a warning sign - and did not
see a train. The truck was en route to a nearby rice mill.
After a delay, the train resumed its trip.
