AMITE, La. (AP) - A 25-year-old man is accused of manslaughter in connection with a shooting that left another man dead.
Amite Police Chief Jerry Trabona tells The Advocate Jeremy Brown was arrested just after midnight Wednesday when a police officer heard shots and found Brown running from the scene of a shooting.
Trabona says 37-year-old Barry R. Bates of Independence had been shot once.
Brown was booked into the Tangipahoa Parish Jail on a count of manslaughter.
Trabona says a Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office police dog located a .45-caliber handgun detectives believe to have been used in the shooting.
It was unclear whether Brown has an attorney.
