LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) - Just under a month after getting state approval to take over the project, Ameristar Casinos Inc. of Las Vegas brought in a bulldozer to break ground for a $500 million resort in Lake Charles.

The American Press reports that Ameristar CEO Gordon Kanofsky told spectators, "We like to under-promise and over-deliver. We are going to get it done."

It's the state's last riverboat casino license.

After Pinnacle Entertainment Inc. scrapped plans for a $305 million development about two years ago, former Pinnacle CEO and Las Vegas businessman Dan Lee got the license.

Ameristar bought the uncompleted project from Lee's company, Creative Casinos of Louisiana LLC for $32.5 million.

The Louisiana Gaming Control Board approved the plans June 21.
