Amendments that will be on the Ballot Today

A look at some of the Amendments that will be on the ballot today.

First up a vote for Amendment 1 would mean an increase in the salary of Statewide elected officials, public service commissioners or Legislators this could not take effect until the next term

Amendment 2 to repair and maintain roads and bridges.

Amendment 3 would would give each Parish the option to call an election to decide if they want to double the homestead exemption for disabled veterans.

Amendment 4 would limit the property tax millage increase following a mandatory rollback. Right now taxing bodies can roll a millage back up to the previous rate.

Amendment 5 would allow homeowners displaced by a disaster to apply for a second 5 year extension on their assessment levels and homestead exemptions. That's if they can't live in their home due to damage.

Amendment 6 would require majority legislative approval for changes to any public retirement system subject to legislative authority.

Amendment 7 would change the bidding rules for tax sale auctions and would allow tax collectors to charge additional penalties for not paying property taxes.
