Ambassador Extension Complete

The Ambassador Caffery Extension in complete. Now, the road stretches all the way from I-10 to US 90 (Evangeline Thruway). A ribbon cutting was held Wednesday afternoon for the final portion, from La Neuville to Youngsville Hwy. That few miles of road, is now the center of debate.

The City of Broussard contributed $10M for the extension project. So, it has proposed an ordinance that would annex the land in that area. Right now, that land is part of the Unincorporated part of Lafayette Parish. Broussard Mayor, Charles Langlinais, says the decision was made in part because of what he was hearing from residents.

"It has a lot to do with identity, and who they(residents) identify with... and generally this is that they don't want to be in the city of Lafayette," Langlinais said.

Langlinais says Lafayette City-Parish officials and even Youngsville officials are trying to stop the annexation. He says he's willing to talk with them to work out some agreement, but wants it to be fair for everyone.

The Broussard City Council will vote on the annex on April 27th. Mayor Langlinais says, if approved, residents and future businesses along the new extension will be able to use Broussard's resources, such as police protection, water and sewage.
