A Moss Bluff man is dead and another behind bars after an altercation at a New Year's Eve party.
On January 1, at 2:35 a.m., the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a fight at a New Year's Eve party on S. Perkins Ferry Road in Moss Bluff.
Deputies say they discovered a man, later identified as Matthew V. Crochet, 36, Moss Bluff, lying on the ground unresponsive. Medical emergency personnel were called and transported Crochet to a Lafayette hospital for treatment for severe head trauma where he died today as a result of his injuries.
The investigation revealed a physical altercation occurred at the party where alcohol was served between Crochet and Brian D. Diamond, 41, 904 S. Perkins Ferry Road, Moss Bluff.
Diamond was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center on January 1 and charged with 2nd degree battery. Due Crochet's death, Diamond's charges will likely be upgraded. The investigation is continuing with more arrests possible.
Judge Clayton Davis set his bond at $350,000 on the 2nd degree battery charge.
