OBERLIN, La. (AP) - Allen Parish students and school employees will see increases in the prices of school breakfasts and lunches this fall.
The American Press reports the school board on Monday unanimously approved price increases of 25 cents for students and 50 cents for employees for both meals.
Finance Director Wilfred Bourne says the increases are needed to offset food and employee costs, which continue to go up.
For the just-ended school year, Bourne says the school board transferred $480,000 from its general fund to the school lunch fund to cover the losses.
Bourne says the last increase for meals was in the 2007-2008 school year.
More than 700,000 meals were served to students and employees last year.
