Alleged Stabbing Over Groceries

On August 13, 2010 at approximately 07:24 a.m. two individuals involved in an altercation resulted in one being allegedly stabbed in the chest and transported to a local hospital and the other charged with attempted second degree murder. Deputies with the Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office were dispatched to 800 Hopkins St. in reference to a fight. Upon arrival, deputies learned an altercation took place between two individuals who were waiting to be checked out by a cashier at Hung's Seafood. Witness stated the argument initiated over items being rang up by the cashier. The individuals then engaged in a fistic encounter which continued outside the business according to witnesses. Deputies were then told one of the persons involved in the fight was stabbed in the chest by the other and was taken away from the scene by people who were on scene.
The Sheriff's Office was then contacted by one of the local hospitals advising of a patient with a stab wound in their emergency room. Detectives and Crime Scene were called out and continued the investigation.
The suspect was identified as Charles Adonis (DOB 10/16/1960) of 1320 Jordan ST. New Iberia. He was located at his residence later and placed under arrest for attempted second degree murder and booked into the Iberia Parish Jail where he is being held and awaiting first appearance.
The victim, age 35, is, at the time of this release, being treated at a local hospital and is in stable condition.
