BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Alleged serial killer Jeffery Lee
Guillory has pleaded innocent to a second-degree murder charge in
the 2002 strangulation of a 46-year-old Baton Rouge woman.
The Advocate reports that Guillory appeared Wednesday before
state District Judge Tony Marabella, wearing shackles and a light
blue prison jumpsuit. He is serving a 50-year-old prison term at
Elayn Hunt Correctional Center in St. Gabriel, following his 2007
conviction for the attempted second-degree murder of a woman in
Lafayette.
His plea was in the death of 46-year-old Renee Newman, whose
body was found in landscaping behind the old Maison
Blanche/Goudchaux's department store building. Authorities have
said Guillory's DNA was matched to evidence found at the crime
scene.
If convicted in Newman's death, he faces an automatic life
sentence.
He's also a suspect in the deaths of two other women in Baton
Rouge between 1999 and 2002.
