NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Alleged serial killer Jeffery Lee Guillory
has been indicted in the 2002 strangulation of a 46-year-old Baton
Police arrested Guillory in December in the slayings of three
women in Baton Rouge between 1999 and 2002. An East Baton Rouge
Parish grand jury on Wednesday indicted him on a charge of
second-degree murder in the death of only one of them - Renee
Newman, whose body was found April 11, 2002, near the back of an
old department store in Baton Rouge.
The Advocate reports that District Attorney Hillar Moore III
plans to introduce at trial evidence from the two other slayings
and details of Guillory's March conviction in the 2007 attempted
second-degree murder of a woman in Lafayette. Guillory is serving a
50-year sentence in that case.
