KATC'S Jim Hummel has just learned that the dramatic change in bell times will be tabled at the Lafayette Parish School Board meeting and instead all schools will start 15 minutes later. Superintendent Pat Cooper said he spoke with 40 high school students who suggested starting school 15 minutes later would solve the problem.
Instead of middle schools and high schools swapping start times, all schools would start school 15 minutes later and end 15 minutes later Cooper is revising the proposal and instead making the bell times part of a two-year plan. First year all schools start 15 minutes later.
In the second year, they will revisit the possibility of swapping the bell times for middle and high school students. The move is pending board approval.
