ALEXANDRIA, La. (AP) - City of Alexandria officials hope to introduce the next chief of the Alexandria Police Department within the next 90 days.
Mayor Jacques Roy has appointed Loren Lampert to serve a 90-day term as interim public safety commissioner following the resignation of Chief Ernest R. Tully last week.
Assistant Chief Jimmy Hay will serve as the acting chief, overseeing day-to-day operations of the department, while Lampert's role will be reviewing the city's entire public safety operation, including the Fire Department.
The Town Talk reports the Alexandria Fire and Police Civil Service Board on Tuesday accepted the administration's request to reopen the chief's position for applications. Tully was among 11 applicants who passed the state chief's test last year before he was hired in August.
