ALEXANDRIA, La. (AP) - Alexandria Mayor Jacques M. Roy wants to build natural gas pipeline.
Roy told the Alexandria City Council's Utility Committee Tuesday he wanted to talk about a new project -- building the city's own natural gas interconnect. The project would cost about $5.5 million. Roy says the savings for the city would be about $400,000 a year.
The Town Talk reports currently the city's natural gas supply is negotiated through the Louisiana Municipal Gas Authority and is transported through a pipeline owned by Louisiana Intrastate Gas Corp.
Roy says the city could recoup the cost of construction of the interconnect in 12 years.
He says the pipeline would connect the city with a larger supply line, cut out transportation fees and give it more supply choices from which to negotiate.
