ALEXANDRIA, La. (AP) An Alexandria man has been charged with 56 counts of obtaining a controlled dangerous substance by fraud.
Saturday's Town Talk reported that William Douglas Briggs, 48, was arrested following a one-month investigation by the Alexandria Police Narcotics Division.
Police say Narcotics agents received information that Briggs illegally used forged prescriptions to obtain narcotics pain medications from several pharmacies in the Alexandria area.
Briggs learned there were warrants issued for his arrest, police said, and he fled to Ocean Springs, Miss., where he was arrested by Mississippi authorities.
Alexandria Police narcotics agents transported Briggs back to Alexandria, where he was booked into the Rapides Parish Jail.
