MONROE, La. (AP) - Ouachita Parish will have the ALERT FM messaging system as part of its parish-wide notification capabilities within the next 60 days.
Ouachita Parish Homeland Security director Tracy Hilburn says once implemented, ALERT FM will allow the Office of Homeland Security to notify residents of emergency information via ALERT FM receivers and smartphone applications for both Apple IOS and Google Android.
ALERT FM is owned and operated by Global Security Systems of Jackson, Miss. It's a personal alert and messaging system that enables state and local government and private sector officials to create and send emergency information to targeted recipients.
Alerts can include severe weather warnings, homeland security notices, hurricane evacuation instructions, utility notices, plant or school closings, and traffic alerts.
