AJRF announces the 8th Annual jeep jaunt

The 8th Annual ‘jeep jaunt' will roll through the back roads of Acadiana on Sunday, October 20, 2013, raising money for the American Lung Association.

The ‘jeep jaunt' started with a family's love for their mother: Alice Joyce (Richard) Falcon suffered a fatal asthma attack just before Christmas, 2004, inspiring the Falcon family to create an event in her name to raise money for asthma awareness. The Falcon clan, led by the youngest, John (JayCee of 99.9 KTDY), formed the Acadiana Jeep Rally Foundation (AJRF), and set out to find businesses in Acadiana who shared their feelings on "family" and "giving back".

With John's experience as Emcee of dozens of non-profit events, and the determination of the whole family, it didn't take long to find businesses and individuals eager to give back to the community through a family-focused event, forming partnerships that are now 8 years strong.

Cypress Bayou Casino Hotel, Sterling Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep/Ram, KATC TV3, Hulco Printers, Celebrity Theatres and Townsquare Media are teaming up again to continue the tradition of the ‘jeep jaunt', which has become the largest Jeep-related event in Acadiana.

The ‘jeep jaunt' is a 35-mile, police-escorted ride, beginning at Celebrity Theatres in Broussard and ending at Cypress Bayou Casino Hotel in Charenton, consisting of Jeeps and other street-legal 4x4 vehicles. Registration is $20 per person (ages 7 and up), and includes lunch at Cypress Bayou Casino Hotel and a door prize ticket. The first 300 people who register receive the ‘jeep jaunt' T-shirt free!

Registration will begin in August at the ‘jeep jaunt' JAM (the annual registration kick-off party) held each year at Sterling Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep/Ram in Opelousas, featuring food, live music, door prizes and more. The date of the ‘jeep jaunt' JAM will be announced in the near future.

Over the past 7 years, the ‘jeep jaunt' has attracted sponsors and participants from all around Louisiana and neighboring states to raise over $300,000 for the American Lung Association, and all parties are looking forward to having a record-breaking event this year.
