The West Calcasieu Airport Managing Board has reapproved a temporary residential housing community that would be home to up to 2,500 construction workers on Southland Executive Airport property.
At a special meeting Monday, the American Press reports the board rescinded its earlier motion to pass the lease because they did not allow a public comment portion prior to the vote the previous week. In order to rectify the technicality, board members allowed up to 40 minutes of public comment. About 50 residents were in attendance at the meeting.
The development still has one more hurdle: The airport must seek approval from the Calcasieu Parish Planning and Zoning Board for a zoning exception. The planning board meets June 17.
