AMITE, La. (AP) - The state Attorney General's Office has raised to nearly $2 million the amount of money a former recording secretary is alleged to have stolen from the Florida Parishes Juvenile Justice Commission.
The Advocate reports Assistant Attorney General David Caldwell has added a third count to Brenda C. Bickford's bill of information, alleging that she took about $800,000 between Jan. 1, 2001, and July 1, 2007.
Bickford already faced felony counts of theft and forgery for allegedly taking more than $1 million between July 1, 2007, and Nov. 17, 2010.
Caldwell said the additional charge came after the Attorney General's Office received word that thefts had been occurring before July 1, 2007.
Bickford also served as executive assistant to District Attorney Scott Perrilloux for 14 years prior to her arrest.
