BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - The American Civil Liberties Union plans to continue with litigation over single-sex classes at Rene Rost Middle School in Kaplan, despite a federal appeals court ruling that the classes should not be halted this year.
ACLU of Louisiana Executive Director Marjorie Esman says that the program at Rene Rost is based on what the
district court even said is extremely flawed data, and they need to correct those flaws.
The appeals court decision on Wednesday does not end the case, and ACLU can still pursue claims that the program is unconstitutional.
School Board attorney Calvin Woodruff says the school system has not decided whether to continue the single-sex classes, but he said that decision will be based on a review of the program's performance, not the ACLU lawsuit.
