SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) - Shreveport police say an accused shoplifter tried to hit a store employee and deserted her two children.

The Times reports 31-year-old Natasha Robinson, of Shreveport, was arrested Monday on charges of aggravated battery, theft of goods and child desertion following an incident at a department store.

Police say Robinson was approached by a loss prevention officer about the theft and fled, leaving her 12 and 1-year-old kids in the store.

As she was driving away in her car, police say she swerved at the store employee as she drove away.

The children were released to a relative after their mother's arrest.

It was unclear whether Robinson has an attorney.
