The accused rapist extradited from Mexico to the United States is now in Mississippi. Miguel Oros, 33, of Tabasco, Mexico is wanted for allegedly raping an 87-year-old woman in Iberia Parish in August 2009. He's currently in Mississippi facing sexual assault charges against five women aged 59 and older. Oros will face those charges before he's extradited to Iberia Parish. He was arrested in Cancun, Mexico for outstanding warrants from the United States Marshal's Office. "I am extremely pleased with this arrest," said Iberia Parish Sheriff Louis Ackal. "This is a testament to law enforcement as a whole. It is a credit to the hard work of the Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office investigators and personnel assigned to the United States Marshal's Task Force.

Oros was a welder and was arrested 15 months ago in Mexico. The Hattiesburg American reports (http://bit.ly/pYSkJo ) that Oros was extradited Wednesday and arraigned Thursday on three counts of rape, seven of sexual battery and five of burglary. Authorities have said Oros also is suspected in a 2005 attack in Lauderdale County. A Jones County grand jury indicted him in 2009. He had been jailed in Mexico since his arrest May 19, 2010. It's unknown when he'll be extradited to Iberia Parish. "This should be a clear message to anyone planning on committing crime in Iberia Parish, no matter how hard you try to hide from us we will utilize every resource available to locate you and bring you to justice," Ackal said.
