BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - The man accused of killing two women at
a construction company again says he did it and is willing to die.
Fifty-three-year-old Richard Matthews has pleaded not guilty to
first-degree murder of 44-year-old Dianna Tullier of Walker and
55-year-old Cheryl Boykin of Denham Springs. Both women were shot
Dec. 23.
After a court hearing Tuesday, a WAFB-TV reporter asked if
Matthews wanted to say anything. He said, "I'm willing to give up
my life for what I did." Matthews he said he had lost his job and
couldn't pay rent.
Prosecutors have said they will seek the death penalty. Under
Louisiana law, someone facing a possible death penalty cannot plead
guilty.
