The man police say carjacked another man then shortly after crashed the vehicle is in a hospital in serious but stable condition. "He had serious internal injuries," Opelousas Police Sgt. Jody White said. Kendall Reed, 28, is accused of carjacking a man in the 1100 block of N. Main St. around 6:42 a.m. as the man stood outside of his vehicle at his house. The victim was putting on his boots to go to work, White said.
Reed allegedly hit the man on the head using a large tool then stole his SUV, according to White. Reed drove nine blocks and crashed the SUV in the 200 block of N. Main Street around 6:45. Besides internal injuries, he has cuts on his head and hands. The victim was treated for a cut on his head. Reed is facing several charges, but he's expected to be in the hospital for days. Investigators are determining appropriate charges.
