Lafayette, LA- More than 600 walkers representing local corporations, families, schools, and other organizations are expected to turn out for the annual Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation's Acadiana Walk to Cure Diabetes. The event is a 1 mile walk originating and ending at beautiful Town Square at River Ranch. There is something for everyone at the Walk including entertainment, games, space jumps, Best Buy electronic entertainment, face-painting, and other family-friendly activities. Refreshments for the event have been generously donated by Piccadilly Restaurants.
JDRF was founded in 1970 by the parents of children with juvenile diabetes-a disease which strikes children suddenly, makes them insulin-dependent for life, and carries the constant threat of devastating complications.
JDRF has invested over $1.6 billion in diabetes research. JDRF's Walk to Cure Diabetes is the fastest growing fund raising event in the organization's history, expected to raise $100 million this year alone across 200 or more cities worldwide through 500,000 or more walkers. In recent years, the local Acadiana Walk to Cure Diabetes program raised over $600,000, and aims to raise $80,000 this year in support of JDRF's mission- to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research. Even if you are not among the 24 million Americans with diabetes, come out, bring your family, and support the cause!
