An Acadiana District Attorney's license to practice law is on the line. The State Office of Disciplinary Counsel filed formal misconduct charges against 16th Judicial District Attorney Phil Haney.
The charges stem from a civil case Haney took on privately four years ago. He represented a woman after she was involved in a boating accident in Iberia Parish. Officials say Haney withdrew the district attorney's office from prosecuting the boat driver.
Critics said he ignored his public duty as DA to take on a private case. Haney made 20 thousand dollars off the case, which was settled in 2007. Although he's denied any wrong doing, state officials say Haney's actions were inappropriate.
Haney continues to serve in his position as DA until this case makes its way through the legal system.
