Halloween is right around the corner and ghosts and goblins will lurk around corners.
Some say the spirits are alive all year at T'Frere's Bed and Breakfast in Lafayette. The home was built in the 1880's. It's believed a young widow named Amoly lived there. As the story goes, she drowned in a well in the backyard. Ever since, visitors and owners say things have been thrown around, lights flicker and sometimes a ghost appears when called.
For more than 20 years, Chere Coen has dedicated her career documenting ghost tales. She's traveled the country writing for different newspapers and magazines.
"Our stories are unique and they're fun, different with our unique culture," said Coen.
She was approached by the History Press to write a book, Haunted in Lafayette, Louisiana. "I'm not one of those people who are scared of ghosts. I think it's fascinating and I'd love to know why they're still hanging around. I wish there was science between it."
T'Frere's is believed to be one of the most haunted places in Lafayette. Maugie Pastor and her family have owned it more than 20 years. Once they started renovating, the late Amoly made it clear she hates changes to her home.
"She started banging things around and making noises in the kitchen. We went to check it out and didn't see anything," said Pastor.
Amoly also spooks guests at night.
"She's a restless spirit, but a good one. She's canaille. This room also, the shades have gone zoop in the middle of the night. Scares the heck out of us!"
Pastor says when her family bought the house, she didn't believe in ghosts. She thought the tales were just hocus pocus. "It took her a while, but she made a believer out of me. Something is here!"
While shooting our story, our camera mysteriously shut off several times despite our battery holding a charge at 90%. We'll leave it up to you to decide if it was equipment malfunction or the spirits!
