Back in 2009, an Oklahoma family almost lost their lives in a horrible accident. They returned to Lafayette Saturday to meet the people who were responsible for saving their lives.

Looking at pictures of the incident, it's hard to believe that Todd Bracey and his family are stood here in Lafayette, waiting to meet the EMT's who saved them.

On their way to visit family in Convington, the Braceys were struck by a vehicle that crossed over the median...hitting them head on.

Todd Bracey recalled the incident. "His car was on fire. People had come to his rescue to try to get him out of the vehicle before it exploded. They were able to get him out... my concern was I had a truck that I had filled up with gas 15 minutes before this wreck."

Acadian Ambulance arrived on the scene, working as quickly as possible to save the Bracey's.

They succeded, and Saturday the Bracey's returned to express their gratitude to their saviors.

The Acadian EMTs were also rewarded with pins and certificates of recognition. The family presented gift baskets to the responders, for saving their lives and for bringing their family closer together.

"It makes a difference. It has drawn us closer...and we don't worry about the little things, we don't argue as much. We accept each other as we are and take it as it goes. And we get along great. Better than we ever have."
