Acadian Museum to Induct Couple into Order of Living Legends

Andy Perrin, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Acadian Museum, has announced that the Acadian Museum will honor Jean and Tommy Norman of Church Point, La, by inducting them into the Order of Living Legends on Saturday, May 18, 2013, at the Acadian Museum Café, 102 East Edwards, Erath, LA, at 4:00 p.m.

The Normans have accomplished much in their lifetime, receiving many awards and honors in their community of Church Point for outstanding service in many different fields. Tommy served his country in Viet Nam and Japan, and during their marriage they have recorded several CDs, with Tommy on drums and Jean on vocals. Tommy is featured in Memories by Johnny Allen, a pictorial history of South Louisiana music, and is in the Swamp Pop Musicians Hall of Fame in Ville Platte, LA. Together, they own the Vieux Moulin Art and Music Shop in Church Point, which is also the tourist information center for Church Point. On sale in the shop are the traditional Cajun Mardi Gras costumes made by Jean, and many other items she makes from the left over costume fabric. Tommy is an artist, woodworker and clockmaker. The couple recycles many things others would discard and turn them into items for the shop. Almost all (80% to 90%) of the goods available for purchase in the store are made by the industrious couple, most of them about their Cajun Culture. The American flags that are flown over the building are there to "honor our serving men and women and others who gave of their time and sometimes their lives so we can be free," said Tommy. "It is a small token for what they do and have done for us. Our dream is that someday every home or business would fly an American flag in honor of our servicemen and women."
