CROWLEY, La. (AP) - The Acadia Parish Police Jury is seeking the support of Louisiana's congressional delegation in helping Rayne acquire financial assistance stemming from tornado damage March 5.
The police jury unanimously passed a resolution on Wednesday.
Mayor James Petitjean (peh-tih-JEEN') tells The Advocate that The Federal Emergency Management Agency rejected Rayne's initial request for financial assistance after determining the damage
estimates were below the required $5 million minimum.
Petitjean say city and state officials are reapplying to FEMA for funding that will also cover the costs of individual homeowners assistance.
He says more than 100 homes were either destroyed or had major damage from the tornado, which affected mainly the northwest
portion of the city.
