Sheriff Melancon is once again reminding residents that effective October 3, 2010, the entire State of Louisiana has been put under a burn ban. All residents are to refrain from any activity that could initiate a fire.
Tuesday afternoon the Sheriff's Office received a call concerning a fire in the woods on Ben Monic Drive near Jennings. The Evangeline Fire Department handled the incident.
Sheriff's Office also received a call concerning a grass fire near Anne Drive in Egan. The Egan Fire Department handled the incident.
Acadia Parish Sheriff Wayne Melancon stated that his office is investigating the following incidents:
-A complaint involving identity theft from a resident on Finwood Drive near Crowley.
-An attempted burglary of a residence on Stage Coach near Crowley. Nothing was taken in the incident.
-Following a brief investigation by deputies, 23 year old Brandon Trahan of Swift Street, Morse was charged with DWI. According to Acadia Parish Sheriff Wayne Melancon his office received a complaint that a pick-up truck was inside the cemetery on top of a grave. Upon arrival at the scene the vehicle had left and was located at his residence on Swift Road. Heavy damage was reported to the gravesite. The investigation continues.
-32 year old Charles Durand was arrested and charged with 2 counts of simple burglary following a brief investigation. According to Sheriff Melancon, Det. Jeff Stewart accompanied by members of the Narcotic Strike Force executed a search warrant at a residence on N Avenue K in Crowley. Several items taken from a burglary, that occurred at business earlier in the day, was located in the residence. Additional information was received and Det. Stewart was able to recover a generator that was also taken during the burglary. Amber Vincent, age 26, of Crowley was charged with possession of stolen property. District Judge Glenn Everett set bond Durand at $20,000 and on Vincent at $7,500.
Sheriff Melancon is asking everyone to contact his office if you witness anything suspicious anywhere in the parish.
