An Acadia Parish Sheriff's deputy shot while responding to a domestic violence call Saturday morning was released from the hospital today. He's home after five surgeries to repair a gunshot wound to his leg, Public Information Officer Maxine Trahan said.
The deputy, whom the sheriff's office isn't naming, was with another deputy when they responded to the 6100 block of Leger Rd. just south of Crowley city limits around 3:00 a.m.
When the arrived, 41-year-old James Trahan, armed with a shotgun, fired at deputies, according to Trahan. Trahan was killed when deputies returned fire.
