The Acadia Parish School Board adopted a new DWI policy during a scheduled school board meeting on December 7th.
Officials say this is a proactive step in case they ever have an issue such as Lafayette school board had earlier this school year.
Employees are now expected to notify the school board within 24 hours if they are charged with DWI in their personal vehicle.
The driver will be suspended with pay and not allowed to work until the case goes through court proceedings.
If the employee is proven guilty, they would lose their commercial license and not be able perform their job.
